Midwest Chapter

BACKGROUND & LEADERSHIP

A few months following the October 2015 convention in New Castle, Delaware, ALJA’s Vice President Joe S. Mason and Assistant Secretary General Kelvin Johnson who both reside in Minnesota, began reaching out to Liberian journalists in the Twin Cities to begin the process of reactivating the local chapter. The goal was to bring together the large number of current and retired Liberian journalists in the Twin cities, which will than provide the impetus needed to jumpstart the reactivation of entire Midwest chapter.

The process was largely successful with the first meeting taking place at the offices of the Liberian consulate in Minnesota in February of 2016. At that meeting and subsequent meetings, the group resolved to resuscitate the local chapter. Hence, the Midwest chapter became the first to be reactivated following the demise of ALJA many years ago. An interim leadership was put in place to solidify the reactivation process and lead the chapter to elections.
